The factory or Likuni Phala Production Unit produces Likuni Phala (fortified soya enriched flour). The unit is a non-profit making organization set up to reduce  the incidence of malnutrition among vulnerable groups. It also provides a market for maize and soy farmers in Mulanje and some employment for the workers.

Mulanje Mission Likuni Phala Production Unit (LPPU) was set up by Mulanje Mission Hospital with technical and financial support from the Royal Tropical Institute of the Netherlands, Ministry of Health (Malawi) and World Food Programme (WFP).

Currently the main client of the factory is the hospitals’ Primary Health Care department and the Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit. It has proved difficult to provide a high quality steady supply and win over new clients in the face of very variable prices of raw materials and competition from large firms.

I am wondering how much the Likuni flour costs, and how much will it cost to support one person who has AIDS. I wish to send the money for some vulnerable people in Malawi , for this flour. Beryl, Australia
