The hospital has a busy antenatal, labour, and post-natal ward including a nursery. Pregnant women are admitted in antenatal ward in case there are medical conditions in pregnancy (malaria, anemia) or if there are signs of early labor. Some statistics:

Vital data such as the number of babies born with asphyxia, and the number of post-operative infections are reported monthly internally. Adverse events are audited and discussed with the midwifery and clinical team.

Our youngest patients are being taken care of in the nursery ward, from day 1 of life to 6 weeks of age. Each year about 650 babies are admitted to the nursery. If possible, babies are treated using the Kangaroo Mother Care principle: skin-to-skin with the mother, father or other guardian. This principle improves survival and growth.

Babies can be treated using continous positive airway pressure (CPAP), which improves outcomes of very low birth weight babies with respiratory problems.
