Today, 12th May, is International Nurses Day. Nurses and midwives provide care in all locations – from hospitals to remote clinics, and have an enormous impact on health in Malawi.
Yet, there are only 0.4 nurses per 1000 Malawians. This is among the lowest numbers anywhere in the world – compared to for example 8.2/1000 in the UK and 11.2/1000 in the Netherlands – 20 to 30 times more!
This small number of nurses is one of the major challenges for MMH as we work to expand our services. The main obstacle is the lack of paid positions.
Join us in celebrating International Nurses Day – by sending a message of support and praying for nurses in Malawi.
